Big Chill Beach Club
What can I say that hasn’t already been said about the Big Chill. Bridget is the best bartender in Bethany. Super chill. Laid back. Nothing fazes her. She’s a beach lifeguard from back in the day. She will take you to school on local beach history, knows “all” the locals, and makes a mean crush, in any flavor you can possibly imagine. She used to own the Sign of the Whale “West” restaurant in Fairfax, Virginia for 10 years before moving to Frankford, Delaware full time. And she got a degree in accounting, so don’t stiff her on tips: she calculates percentages in her head. You stand no chance. So don’t even try. Or you’ll be washing dishes. She protects her staff. But she’s a beach babe at heart. Just don’t bring snacks 😉
Marie’s been here for 5 years. A senior at Ursinus. She’s looks sweet. But she don’t take nothing from nobody. Ask her for food rec’s. She’ll ask if you want fish or tacos. Maybe both. She recommended the best dish I’ve had at the Big Chill since they opened in 2017: the chimichurri steak skewers. Spicy, tender and tasty. An absolutely delightful dish. Paired with a couple crushes, it made my afternoon.
Recent college grad, Jack, was working his second shift. 6’1” and polite to a fault, he studied marketing and finance at USC (“Go Cocks”), hunting for investment banking internships in New York City (“get a rope”), even though he’s still learning the ropes. Bright kid. Big potential. Hope he’s not working on Wall Street by the time you visit, because it’s your loss, not his 😉
Eric’s the culinary guy. Speaks softly. Carries no stick. But he’s laid back. With his mind on his money and his money on his mind. Snoop Dog could learn a few things about being cool from the dopest staff in Southern Delaware, slinging crushes, smashing burgers and watching the ocean blend into the sky in a peaceful shade of blue and teal from atop a rooftop bar called the Big Chill.

Sat at the bar and Mandy & Mario were exceptional... great service and very attentive. I would be happy to return.

Fun Venue | OK service | Not great food... Set lower expectations.
.................
FOOD: Salads are definitely better than the handhelds. My wife's salad was delicious and abundant; my fish sandwich was super Sad Sally (soggy breading, sloppy tomato falling apart, and wet lettuce with no crisp at all. Oh, and it's not cheap)
................
DRINKS: Limited. Beer selection appeared decent (5 drafts/dozen or two cans. Mixed drinks ... limited to crushes or margheritas. Nothing frozen.
..........
ATMOSPHERE - Solid beach venue with plenty of bars and deck areas to accommodate large amount of guests. There's a sand pit with lawn games, an area with hammocks, and lots of seating option.
We enjoyed the venue, and I imagine it's really fun at night time too.
It's pricey, but then again it seems all of DE beaches capitalize on price gouging.
